Oppikoppi – Fantastic Mr Vos Vos

Oppikoppi 2015_NotAnotherZebra-88

Oppikoppi 2015_NotAnotherZebra-131

This years OppiKoppi was quite a different experience. Firstly, I’d love to know how or who stopped people from shouting OPPI and retaliating KOPPI – purely to kiss them right on the face and sincerely thank them.

That wasn’t the only difference at this years, Mr. Vos Vos, in fact, as NAZ sees it, it was a distinctively different experience. This year, we didn’t have any interviews and almost no responsibilities. It was beautiful to be freely intoxicated before the sunset. Red eye Jedi – without stuttering some arb questions to the likes of Sibot or The Kiffness.

In fact, a month prior to Oppi we had yet to even request media passes from the lovely, Erin Crous, thankfully she was kind enough to allow us last-minute entrance into the festival.

This was the first event in 6 months that Brendon and I were both able to attend (it’s kinda hard to report on something from China, china.) Continue reading

Sofar Sounds – Another Banger.

Sofar Sounds Not Another Zebra-25

Sofar Sounds, how we love you so! Every time we are lucky enough to crack an invite, this event completely blows us away! The mass amount of ‘undiscovered’ bands in South Africa is completely baffling. We are riddled with talent and as a country, producing some of the finest music in the world!

Last weeks Sofar Sounds was particularly monumental, we were treated to some real quality acts! First up was the likes of Frankie Beagle , their sweet-sweet sounds were the perfect start to a relaxed evening of blissful music. The act consisted of two musicians making love to the microphone whilst soulfully shredding their axes.  Continue reading

I’ve been a huge Martin Rocka fan since the day I found out about it, I remember seeing his name on flyers and being instantly sold on the event. Martin Rocka plays for various ‘popular’ bands and unfortunately because of that their aren’t enough Marttin Rocka & The Sick Shop shows. Luckily for you (and me) there is one this freakin weekend baby! So read this, get amped and go boogie on down! Continue reading

The Plastics – Dose Of Hypnosis Tour. (Interview)

plasticswinter5

The gents from The Plastics were in town this past weekend and unfortunately our last minute plans to meet up with them didn’t quite work out, perhaps for the better because we will be doing a full feature on them in September! Yes! Luckily in this day and age everything is digital and a few Whatsapp’s and a couple of emails later we had a full interview with the dudes! This is what they had to say about their good times in Jozi:

Firstly, how was JHB? We can only imagine it treated you well!

Float Parade – What You Can Expect.

4-3 copy medIt’s going to be a great week, particularly because regardless of what happens this week. It’s going to end with a bang! The bang being Park Acoustics Fourth birthday. With a massive line-up packed full of local flavour and topped off with a little international spice in the form of St. Lucia Sunday will be the highlight of my week as well as yours.  Continue reading

Gangs Of Ballet – Vday.

DSC_7273

Gangs Of Ballet are making a few waves in the local music scene, they’re a lot more mellow and commercial then the type of bands we normally interview but hey – they make some quality music. Tonight these guys are playing in Durban at the botanical gardens with a 50 piece orchestra, very Valentines day-ish of them.

We did an interview with them a week ago or so and received their answers today. Hmmmm mysterious, but hey if I was in a band I would be pretty amped to perform with an Orchestra. ( These guys totally won’t retweet our tweet. ) This is what they had to say:  Continue reading

The Griet/Arcade Empire Halloween Party.

Halloween-ArcadeEmpire-Notanotherzebra-18

Halloween, always a good time but this year it was extra special. Arcade Empire really know how to throw a party and make sure the line up is banging. Friday’s event had a long list of awesome local acts and they all performed really well. Short Straw played a good set, however the highlight for me was the cross dresser on stage getting his grind on with the band members. Fuzigish, Desmond And The Tutus and Bittereinder also all completely shredded the stage and the night just kept on getting better and better. It’s rare to go to a show where every single act is amazing and this was one of those shows. It felt like the perfect build up and Haezer was definitely the climax.

All in all the music was fantastic and catered to everyone’s liking but the people around were just as entertaining. It was good to see so many people actually put in the effort to dress up and there were some insane costumes. Desmond And The Tutus did however win best dressed in my eyes, perfect Ali G impersonations.
